Born in Glen Creran, he attended Appin Primary, Oban High and Manchester Metropolitan University.  Rab has had a varied military career which includes Training Warrant Officer at the Physical Training Wing at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Chief Instructor of the Joint School of Adventurous Training Instructors in Llanrwst, North Wales.  More recently, he was responsible for the Physical Development of all Army units from the Midlands north, including Scotland and Northern Ireland.  Rab then moved to Canada as the Officer Commanding Trails End Camp delivering the British Army outdoor programme in the Rockies, Alberta.   In his final military appointment, he established a new Army Outdoor Centre in Cameron Barracks, Inverness.   Rab is a keen skier and mountaineer who has led and participated in a wide variety of expeditions around the world.  His second attempt on Mount Everest was thwarted by the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015.

 

Rab has returned to Argyll and settled in Connel with his partner Elise.  He is passionate about Argyll, it's landscape, culture and heritage.  With 60 medieval castles, 32 clan seats, 1256 Neolithic standing stones, it is the birthplace of a nation and  the cradle of Christianity here in Scotland.  Argyll has a coastline longer than that of France, 25 inhabited islands and 14 world class distilleries.  Nothing would enthuse Rab more than to lead you on a journey into the bloody, beautiful and spiritual periods of yesterday, albeit in the contemporary comforts of a Land Rover Discovery.  

 

Rab has a son Ryan who works in the Oil and Gas Industry.
